Ubisoft does not include physical games in UK collectors’ editions for upcoming Xbox One titles

Ubisoft has made a change to the Collector’s editions on Xbox for three of their most anticipated games. If you pre-ordered the Collector’s editions for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, or Far Cry 6 on Xbox, you will now receive a digital copy of the game instead of a physical edition.

A short post on a help page found on the UK’s Ubisoft website details the change. Ubisoft gave no reason, but it could be related to Xbox’s Smart Delivery feature, which gives access to selected games on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X. In essence, you buy a game once to play on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X. All three of these Ubisoft titles support Smart Delivery, so there’s only one Collector’s edition for each game compatible with both Xbox consoles. Ubisoft has made it clear to Polygon that this change does not apply to North American customers.

The change does not apply to PS4 versions of the Collector’s editions, which will still come with physical games. Just like on Xbox, you can play your PlayStation pre-order on both the PS4 and PS5 – though the subject matter for the game will be PS4. Ubisoft also supports a cross-buy system on PS4 to PS5 for technical improvements. Unlike some of its competitors, the next-gen games will cost $ 60, at least at launch.

The expensive Collector’s editions for Far Cry 6 ($ 200), Watch Dogs: Legion ($ 190), and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla ($ 200) are sold exclusively in the Ubisoft Store. Unfortunately, the only one in stock is Watch Dogs: Legion.
