“The continued proliferation of more transmissible variants could jeopardize the progress we’ve made over the past month,” said Dr. Rochelle Valensky, director of disease control and prevention, during a White House briefing.
But, by reducing the case, the U.S. “The variants will give fewer chances to spread and new variants to emerge,” he added.
But the U.S. Has two powerful tools that can help fight its spread and move the country beyond the epidemic tunnel, Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN on Wednesday night.
“We continue to do the two ways we can deal with it, the types of public health interventions we’re talking about right now,” he said.
These include wearing a mask, universal wear, social distance, avoiding crowded areas, and washing hands regularly.
“But, as the weeks and months go by, as you vaccinate more and more people, you have a vaccine that works against this variable,” Fausi added. “So if we roll the vaccine … and we vaccinate as many people as possible as long as we maintain public health measures, we should be in a better position.”
“This will not be easy,” Fawcett said, warning that because of the variant’s transmissibility – that’s why “we have to work on it quickly.”
While ordinary people will get shots
But really it will take more time to vaccinate all the people.
“(These vaccines) will be available in July,” Fawcett told CNN. “It may take several months towards the end of summer to really vaccinate everyone.”
How long it will take “depends on the efficiency with which you get the dose in people’s hands,” he added.
On Wednesday, Kroger announced its health care department has given Kroger Health more than 380,000 Covid-19 vaccines in groups, including essential health care workers, the elderly population and teachers in 25 health states.
About 1,300 Kroger Health pharmacies receive and administer shots, the release said, and once all 2,200 pharmacies begin vaccination doses, they will be able to get about 500,000 vaccinations per week.
Kroger Health also announced a new scheduling tool for vaccinations, which can manage “over 250,000 requests per day” and allow people to check the suitability of the vaccine.
How many people have been vaccinated here
CDC data show that more than 15.4 million people have been fully vaccinated. That’s about 6.6% of the U.S. population.
Her 75 to 85 85% of U.S. Among the population, the country will need to be vaccinated to reach herd immunity, Fawcett said. This percentage is “a perfect estimate.”
“You don’t know what animal immunity really is until you reach a certain level and then when you get down to it, then you start to get infected for the community,” Fauci said. “We know exactly what it is for measles, we don’t know what it is for (Covid-19) yet. But I imagine it’s somewhere between 75 and 85%.”
Fawcett also said he hopes the vaccine dose will be widely available to the American people, with enough people getting shots to reach the immunization percentage of the country.
The CDC director warns against travel
Meanwhile, amid repeated warnings by Americans to continue to take safety measures, the CDC director also urged the American public to avoid traveling locally.
Vale Lansky was asked if there would be any guidance or recommendations from the CDC regarding Covid-19 testing before domestic flights.
“We no longer have tests to make it really easy and possible for people trying to travel,” he said. “You shouldn’t travel anyway.”
He said the agency asks people to follow guidelines such as currency and testing, as variants are spread and the country works to increase its testing capacity.
But the U.S. has instead seen some of its busiest air travel days after the recent holidays.
The TSA reported that it checked more than 967,000 people at the airport on Monday and another 738,000 on Tuesday.
CNN’s Michael Nedelman, Pete Munten, Andrea Diaz, Rebecca Riaz, Andrea Diaz, Amanda Seeley and John Bonifield contributed to the report.
