U.S. Capitol riots: Two proud boy members face conspiracy charges

The new indictment against both Dominic Pazola and William Pepe of New York is the first riot-related case in which he was accused of working together with members of the Pride to attack the Capitol.

But the individuals are not accused of planning the attack before coming to Washington. He is accused of conspiring to interfere with police officers defending the Capitol, participating in civil unrest, illegally entering grounds, and entering into other federal crimes.

Both men were killed with the first charges two weeks ago. The plaintiffs alleged that they had erected metal barricades in the capital and that Pazola had broken the window with the help of a police officer’s riot. Footage of the attack showed pro-Trump rioters entering the capital through a broken window.

The Proud Boys is a rights-extremist group, with some members advocating sexist, white nationalist and anti-Semitic views.

Of the approximately 175 known defendants facing riot-related charges, at least eight are linked to the Proud Boy, according to a CNN analysis of court documents. Prosecutors and several FBI agents are handling the cases, according to court filings. He specializes in investigating terrorist groups, violent gangs and other national security issues.

The Justice Department’s counterterrorism department, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, is helping to prosecute Pezola and Pepe, according to a news release on Friday.

In response to the allegations, Pazola’s lawyer, Michael Sybita, told CNN that he was “denied” contact with a client locked up in prison, which diminished his ability to mount “meaningful legal protection.”

Prosecutors representing Pepe did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.
