The Cubs are starting to feel the soft, uncomfortable knee from the injury fracture.
The latest is starter Tyler Chatwood, who is unlikely to start today. He is shocked because of some tight back. It sounds like he’s currently being considered, and I expect we’ll know more tomorrow.
Due to the Cubs’ dismissal last weekend, they have at least one regular starter ready: Alec Mills will take the ball tonight. That, in turn, will leave the possibility open – how bad, though? – that Chatwood can just start tomorrow, which keeps the rotation in tact.
… because the last thing you want right now, with two double heads coming up early next week, is for the Cubs to go down a starting pitcher. Right now, Mills would now line up to take the ball in the second of those two double-header days (Wednesday).
Hopefully the Cubs were just extra careful with Chatwood, because today they had the opportunity to just swap Mills. And hopefully the Brewers spent the whole day preparing for the very different game of Chatwood!
