Two Outer Banks restaurants have temporarily closed so employees can get a coronavirus test after they both reported that the tests tested positive for the virus.
Rooster’s Southern Kitchen in Kill Devil Hills posted on Facebook that it would be closed for Sunday brunch and lunch so that house staff members could be screened. On Saturday, a part-time employee who has not been to the restaurant in the past seven days tested positive.
Rooster has a contract with a lab for rapid tests and was hoping to open for dinner tonight.
Plaza Azteca OBX, also in the Kill Devil Hills, said in a Facebook post that it would be closed on Sundays and Mondays for cleanup after an employee tested positive.
“This person has not been in the restaurant since 07/12/2020, but as a precaution, all our staff members, regardless of whether they may have had contact with this person or not, have been evaluated in emergency care in Nags Head and we are waiting for the test results in the next 24-48 hours, “the restaurant said. The restaurant will also undergo a thorough cleaning.

Dare County health officials reported nine new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, totaling 255 since testing began in March. The latest cases include:
