Two NYC police officers were injured in the day’s shooting

Two New York City police officers were injured Tuesday during a one-day shooting while responding to a domestic violence case, police told Fox News.

Police encountered gunman Rondel Goppy when they were inside a home at 145-86 179th St. in Queens at 12:45 p.m.

Christopher Christopher Wells, 36, was shot in the leg and broken. Officer Joseph Murphy, 32, suffered hand injuries. Both officers needed surgery for their injuries. Wells has been under pressure for 14 years and Murphy for six years.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shia said they were listed as stable.

Gopi, a 411-year-old peace officer at Harlem’s New York City University, was shot dead in an exchange of fire and pronounced dead at the scene.

Hours earlier, the 41-year-old woman, believed to be Goppy’s wife, had gone to NYPD’s 105 Present to report a domestic incident since Monday night, Shea said. The two officers went back home with him, and were there for six minutes when Goppi arrived.

“Almost immediately, he walks to the front door and starts firing at two of our officers,” Shea said.

Officers fired. It was not immediately clear how many times Gopi was hit. The woman was not injured. Shea said investigators seized two handguns from the scene and another somewhere else. Goppi was licensed to carry firearms.

Shee said Goppy does not have a criminal record, but officials had previously responded to the residence for local issues. He said investigators are investigating what happened in those cases.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said he met with the families of the injured officers.

“Here you have officers who do God’s work,” he said. “They protect survivors of domestic violence. They go through some unstable, difficult situations that you can imagine.”

Pat Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association, the city’s largest police union, slammed elected officials over cutting police budgets.

“Sometimes talking about policing in a college ledge classroom … in a council room … in a zoom conference, it seems very easy to say, ‘Here’s the script and here’s what we’re going to do,'” he said. Looking … there is no script. We cannot be removed. “

The shooting came after a 24-hour brief respite from gun violence in the city. The New York Post reports that 1,704 people have been shot this year as of Monday.
