Two Google devices at FCC, possibly Android TV & remote

Over the past few months, we’ve been slowly learning more about Google’s next streaming device, which is powered by Android TV instead of a simple Chromecast. Today, two new Google devices are shown to the FCC, which we believe to be the first-party Android TV and its remote.

Before a device with wireless capabilities can go on sale in the United States, it must be specifically approved by the FCC. This morning, Google submitted paperwork for two new devices with model numbers GZRNL and G9N9N.

From the description of GZRNL as an “Interactive Media Streaming Device”, we believe that this could be the much anticipated Android TV dongle from Google, named Sabrina and was the successor to the Chromecast Ultra.

Digging further to their mention, we find a card-shaped FCC label that, if this is indeed for the Android TV dongle, would probably go on the back. In addition, the FCC shows that this GZRNL device only supports WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, as you would expect.

Meanwhile, G9N9N is simply referred to as a “wireless device”, which offers very little way of getting directions. By looking at a diagram showing the FCC label and location of the device, we see that the label will be found “under power coverage.” This one cow indicate that we see the corresponding distance to go with the Android TV dongle, because most remotely have a “power cover” to keep the batteries in place.

Moreover, the only other thing we stand to learn about this potential remote is that the only type of connection it uses is Bluetooth. All interesting parts of these FCC lists, as well as images revealing what these two devices are, are locked until the end of January behind the FCC’s temporary confidentiality. Both of these devices are mainly “Made in Thailand”, because Google wants to diversify its supply chain.

As we also noticed last time a mystery device appeared to the FCC, these new model numbers GZRNL and G9N9N do not seem to be in line with all past product lines offered by Google. Past Chromecasts have typically used model numbers that refer to Star Trek, such as NC2-6A5 separate reference NCC-1701.
