The Twins appear to have dodged a bullet when the club received promising test results after Byron Buxton left practice at Monday’s training camp with an apparent ankle injury.
“He was tested several times last night. He got the results and there was no real structural damage or injury they could find, which was great news. That said, I’ll say he was a little uncomfortable, so he doesn’t want to paint is like where we are completely out of the woods and he will be there running tomorrow, “manager Rocco Baldelli said in an interview with MLB Network Radio.
“We’re going to treat the symptoms and see him recover. As for what we were hoping to get from those results, we got that. That’s a very, very good thing for Buck and for all of us.”
Buxton, according to Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic, was tracking a deep ball to midfield from Nelson Cruz’s bat when his cue seemed to be trapped on the ground. Buxton had to be removed from the field.
Buxton, who was limited to 87 games last season due to injuries, was scheduled to see a doctor again on Tuesday.
There is no timetable at this time for Buxton’s return.
Minnesota will open the season on Friday, July 24 on the road against the Chicago White Sox, although they will play an exhibition two days earlier at Wrigley Field against the Cubs.
