Turns out no one planted a tampon in a Frappuccino from a Los Angeles police officer

At the height of national protests against police brutality, a disturbing trend seemed to be emerging: people trying to poison American police officers. But the story of an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer receiving a frappuccino with a tampon has now been discredited, as has the much-hyped story of New York police officers deliberately receiving Shake Shack shakes mixed with bleach. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department launched an investigation after the LAPD police officer, who was not in uniform but used his police credit card to order from a Starbucks at Diamond Bar, claimed that a giant tampon was deliberately put on Your drink. At the time, the Los Angeles Police Protective League called it “a gross assault on a police officer … carried out by someone with hatred in his heart.”

But investigators have concluded that it was just a cleaning cloth that accidentally ended up in the drink. An apologetic barista told LASD that she picked it up after it had fallen onto the ice and unknowingly mixed it with the drink. The surveillance video also showed nothing suspicious. “The investigation failed to prove malicious intent on the part of the store employee,” LASD said.
