Trump’s RNC Finals Outside White House Trigger Dems: ‘Get Off Our Lawn’

With a first-ever Republican convention final on Thursday night outside the White House, President Trump and the GOP once again ignored Washington’s rules – leaving Democrats furious.

“Get off our lawn,” tweeted former presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., When Trump formally accepted the GOP nomination in a speech on the South Las.

The Republican Party gathered more than 1,000 spectators for the last night of its square gathering – the temporary event caused by concerns about the coronavirus.

The party initially planned to hold a traditional-style convention in Charlotte, NC, but eventually decided against it, choosing instead to give most speakers their addresses from the Mellon Auditorium in Washington, just a short distance from the White House.

Before Thursday’s final, however, senior White House adviser Ivanka Trump and the president spoke to the crowd from a stage on the South Lawn.

Two major Trump campaign signs were posted on both sides of the stage, angering Democrats who aired their frustrations on social media.

“My blood is boiling over political banners at the White House,” wrote former U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri. “Terrible. Just awful. ”

“Let’s be clear,” wrote former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, a former mayor of South Bend, India. “It is wrong and illegal to use federal property and taxpayer resources for partisan campaigns.”

“A @JoeBiden presidency may not come soon enough,” Buttigieg added in another tweet.

Other Democrats seemed annoyed that Republicans appeared to be less concerned than they were about the coronavirus. Few participants in the White House event appeared to be wearing masks, and most spectators sat closer together than the recommended social distance of six meters.

The GOP also appeared to spread the recommendations on previous nights, during a Wednesday event in Maryland with Vice President Mike Pence and during a Tuesday speech in the Rose Garden outside the White House with First Lady Melania Trump.

“Is coronavirus gone? Is COVID-19 gone? ”Senior adviser Symone Sanders of the Biden campaign responded Thursday to a call with journalists, according to The Associated Press. ‘I did not see any masks or social distancing happening during the Vice President’s speech yesterday. That, the reality is, here is a lack of leadership. ”
