President Trump dismissed claims Friday that members of his New Jersey golf club attending his press conference did not follow state coronavirus guidelines.
During the question-and-answer period at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, Washington Post reporter Toluse Olorunnipa recalled Trump’s claim that the virus ‘disappears’.
“We lost 6,000 Americans this week,” Olorunnipa told the president. “And right in this room, you have dozens of people who do not follow the guidelines in New Jersey who say you should have no more than-“

“No, this is a political activity,” Trump replied as the audience boosted the reporter. “You are doing this wrong because it is a political activity. They have exceptions … and it is also a peaceful protest.”
That sparked laughter and cheers among the club members. Critics of national lockdowns and door-to-door orders have elected officials accused of hypocrisy for allowing large-scale protests in recent weeks.
“And to me, it all seems like they all have – almost everyone wears their masks,” Trump continued. “You know, you have an exclusion in the law that says peaceful protest as political activity, right? In fact, specifically, yes, it says just political activity as peaceful protest. And you can call it political activity, but I call it peaceful protest because they heard you came up and they know the news is false. They understand it better than anyone. “
After another round of cheers, Trump continued to slam the press, speaking with a reporter who had asked him about Russia’s proven efforts to ‘denigrate’ presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden without noticing China and Iran’s hope for a Biden win.

“If the press in this country were honest, if it was not corrupt, if it were not false, our country would be so much ahead,” the president said. “But we’re doing great,”
The president then ended the news conference.
