A New York Times report released on Saturday states that President Donald Trump, who signed the coronavirus agreement earlier this month, was considering surprising observers.
Trump made several calls during his stay at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last week, in which he proposed to observers the idea of first appearing physically weak, people familiar with the matter said. Upon his release from the hospital, he will open his dress shirt to reveal the shirt with the infamous Superman logo, according to the Times.
Trump announced that on Friday, October 2, he was diagnosed with coronavirus, and by the second night, he had been taken to Verter Reed and started taking rimadesivir, an antiviral drug. He was also given an experimental antibody cocktail from the drug manufacturer Regeneron, and was later placed on the steroid dexamethasone.
During Trump’s three-day stay in the hospital, contradictory descriptions came out on his prediction. According to CNN, Trump advisers and other allies have described him as “very tired, very tired and having little breathing.” Others have claimed that the rumors were exaggerated.
Uncertainty over Trump’s condition was exacerbated after White House physician Sean Conley set a different timeline for the president’s infection. Conley initially claimed that Trump’s condition was improving after a 72-hour diagnosis, which means he would have been diagnosed on Wednesday, Sept. 30. He later issued a statement saying he had “misrepresented” the timeline.
At the time, Conley also posed a number of important questions about Trump’s diagnosis, including whether the president received supplemental oxygen.
On Sunday, Trump briefly left the hospital and rode supporters in the president’s SUV. U.S. for photo tour. His trip was widely criticized for endangering people in a limited space, including secret service agents.
By Monday, he was out of the hospital. He has since decided to take part in several campaign rallies before the November 3 election.
“Don’t let it dominate you,” Trump said in a recorded video. “Don’t be afraid of him. You’re going to beat him.”
