The president-elect transition team on Tuesday rolled out a preliminary list of “key members” of its agency review teams, ensuring that the new Biden administration will rule in all departments once Mr Biden and vice-president Kamala are in office. Harris has sworn in office fees.
Agency review teams are mostly made up of volunteers, although some include full-time employees of the transition team, and vary in size depending on the agency.
“Our nation is grappling with epidemics, economic crises, urgent calls for ethnic justice and the ongoing threat of climate change. To protect our interests at home and abroad, we must be prepared for the seamless transfer of knowledge in the coming administration,” Former Senator Ted Kaufman said in a statement. “The agency’s review process will help lay the foundation for meeting these challenges on the first day.”
Teams will be initiated by meeting with representatives of previous agency officials and experts, as well as think tanks, labor groups, trade unions and other organizations. Once the General Services Administration acknowledges that Mr. Biden is the winner of the election, the teams will work directly with the agency staff.
Tappers come from a variety of fields including state government, universities and think tanks to work in agency review teams. Others are alumni of the Obama administration or have worked on Capitol Hill.
Among those selected to lead their respective agency review teams are Leandra English, the former deputy director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau who leads the agency’s team, and Chris Lew, the former deputy secretary of labor who heads the department’s group.
The Biden transition team noted that members of the agency review team will be announced, more than half of whom are women and about 40% “represent historically represented communities in the federal government, including people of color, people known as LGBTQ + and people with disabilities. “
