Trump squandered nearly 30,000 downs in surprise press conference, walked out a minute later

President Donald Trump smashed the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30,000 for the first time on Tuesday shortly before and then disappeared a minute later without taking questions.

The president’s mini-presentation, perhaps his briefest remarks from a lecturer in the White House briefing room, came less than a day after his administration took a big step toward the transition to Biden’s presidency.

The head of the General Services Administration, Emily Murphy, said in a letter to Biden on Monday that the Trump administration was providing federal resources for the transition to his office. He had refused to make a decision for weeks, which drew strong criticism from Biden’s supporters.

But Trump, even three weeks after election day, has not accepted the race for Biden. He made no mention of the ongoing struggle to overturn the election results during his remarks on Tuesday afternoon, which lasted a total of about 62 seconds.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that if Biden won the election, the stock market and the economy would “crash”. But Downey’s record-setting rally came weeks after news outlets called the race for Biden, and a few days after being elected by the president, top officials began to announce who would occupy his cabinet.

“I just want to congratulate everyone. The stock market, the Dow Jones Industrial Average averaged just 30,000 hits, the highest in history,” Trump said in a briefing room.

“We’ve never broken the 000,000,000, and despite all that happened with the epidemic.”

Trump said, “The stock market is just broken, 000,000 – the number that never broke. That’s a sacred number, 000,000, and no one even thought they would ever see it,” Trump said.

“I just want to congratulate all the people inside the administration who worked hard, and most importantly I want to congratulate the people of our country, because there are no people like you. All, thank you very much, thank you.”

With that, the President turned and walked out of the briefing room, then Vice President Mike Pence approached. Neither Trump nor any other official responded to the influx of questions from the White House press corps.

“Mr. President, are you going to confess?” Trump was one of the questions asked by reporters as he walked. “Sir, why not confess for the good of the country, sir?”

Trump was scheduled to reappear at the Rose Garden on Tuesday afternoon, where he and First Lady Melania Trump will present the national Thanksgiving Turkey, a White House tradition.

Trump has falsely claimed he won re-election, and on Monday night he tweeted that “he will never admit it.” He also reiterated several conspiracy theories that his legal team cited in arguments, without evidence, that he was the victim of widespread electoral fraud.

But the lawsuits filed by the Trump campaign in the major swing states did not focus on fraud. On the contrary, those claims, among other claims, are arguing that states are blocking the certification of election results, that parts of the ballot should be removed from the length of the final vote.

None of these cases, reported by the Trump campaign or its allies, have succeeded in invalidating the vote. And four war-torn states – Georgia, Michigan, Nevada and Pennsylvania – have certified their election results in recent days, all of which Biden won.
