Officials said last week that the New York Police Department recently marked a 25-year high in gun buses.
Commissioner Dermot Shea, NYPD’s top cop, said 160 guns were seized between Gust 31 and last Sunday.
“We reached a 25-year high of gun arrests last week. We’ve had the most gun arrests in a week in 25 years,” he told 1010 Win.
News came after 23 shootings – two fatal – over the weekend. The victims include a Caribbean culture festival in Brooklyn early Monday, the mother-of-one, her mother and three others who were injured in the shooting while celebrating J’Overt.
Shea noted that 436 gun arrests were made in the 28-day period ending Sept. 6, a sharp increase from 320 reported in the same period last year, according to the New York Post. He blamed bail reform and the closing of courts for some of the rise in gun offenses.
