Trump has repeatedly blamed Democrats for pleading vote by mail, claiming without proof that it is a duty to help them win the election by opening the door to voter fraud. But Trump on Monday struck a new tone to equate Democrats with authoritarian governments that are actively seeking to undermine American democratic institutions.
The president’s remark comes after the director of the National Center for Intelligence and Security Services, Bill Evanina, publicly said that Russia was forcing the election to move in Trump’s favor and that China and Iran were hoping for a Joe Bid victory.
Russian interference has always been a painful place for Trump, who has denied reports by his own intelligence officials that Moscow invaded in the 2016 elections. He dismissed the claims as a ‘witch hunt’, especially suggesting that those efforts to his campaign may have been bound.
Democrats have called for a shift to voting via mail, fearing that polling stations could become hotbeds for the spread of the coronavirus. Despite Trump’s protests, there is little evidence that e – mail voting allows more fraud than personal voting, and a handful of states already hold postal elections.
Still, several state leaders and Democrats have expressed concern about the U.S. Postal Service’s ability to handle a nationwide election as the new Trump-appointed postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, makes cuts in the service in the name of reducing costs. Post workers have complained about increased delays amid DeJoy’s changes, and voters are being encouraged to cast their ballots as soon as they can.
