Trump says NYC was ‘so good’ before he left, not so much anymore

Start spreading the news: They’re leaving “in trouble.”

New York City was in much better shape when it campaigned for the White House in 2016 than it is today, President Trump complained in a Twitter message Friday.

The president’s tweet came at noon from media reports that residents have fled the Big Apple.

“It showed signs of future problems, but was so good when I left 4 years ago!” wrote the president.

Wealthy New Yorkers began moving to their second homes in the suburbs and countryside as the coronavirus overwhelmed the city in early spring – but now many have begun moving for the good, New York reported Post this week.

Moon Salahie, owner of Elite Moving & Storage in New York City, told the Post that 90% of its customers are moving to the suburbs.

“People are fleeing the city in a hurry,” he said. Many of his clients are families with young children who are worried about the coronavirus that could spread to schools when classes start again.

Oz Moving told Fox Business that it has seen a “drastic” increase in application requests, about 30% year over year.

Ross Sapir, president of Roadway Moving, said for the past three months that his company “could not keep up with demand.”

Many New Yorkers are moving to Florida, California, Texas and North Carolina, Fox Business reported.

A New York Post editorial that Trump retweeted in his post called the virus the ‘last straw’ for those leaving.

“New Yorkers are tired of shooting and looting, homelessness on the streets, sub-par online schools, sky-high taxes and the utter forgetfulness of pulses like Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo,” the editors said.

The Democratic mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, left, was a target of a blowing up editorial about the Big Apple that President Trump retweeted Friday.

Trump told the Post this week that his campaign team believes they can win New York, a normally deep-blue state.

“In the last six months, what has happened is insane,” the president told the Post. “That we will try to win all of New York and that will be the first time – is that, I say, Ronald Reagan?”

“I will bring taxes and I will make sure New York City is a safe place,” he added. ‘I mean, this is one of our cherished – this is a cherished diamond of this land. And we can not do this with New York. ”
