President Trump said Tuesday that college football would make a “tragic mistake” in canceling the 2020 season over the coronavirus.
The Big Ten is one of the Power 5 conferences reportedly set to vote on whether this year should have a college football season like in the spring. Trump, who appeared in a radio interview on Outkick, told host Clay Travis what he thought about the idea of canceling the season.

Trump, quoting a doctor, said that because the high school football athletes are in good shape, they would be less likely to pick up the coronavirus and he did not expect to have any problems with it.
‘The other thing is that someone explained to me, one of the great doctors, he said that these people are so powerful and so strong, not a lot of body fat – maybe you can take some offensive lineman and fight that – but not a lot body fat and maybe in some cases none and they are very healthy people. People do not realize this, but a small percentage of people who get sick … they are old. “It just affects old people, especially old people with bad hearts, diabetes or some kind of physical problem,” he said.

“It simply came to our notice then. It could be if it’s the wrong person. These footballers are physically very young, strong people. Physically, they are in extraordinary shape. You will not see people die and many people will get it and they will … kids get it and they have the sniffles … it almost nobody has a serious problem with it. I mean literally. I think they said the state of California, almost no one that young, like zero, had a problem with being a serious problem with this disease. They get better very quickly when they get it all. ‘
He added that he thought “football makes a tragic mistake”, while wondering about the atmosphere of the games he attended last season. Trump appeared at the LSU-Alabama and Army-Navy games and the national championship game between LSU and Clemson.
