Trump ‘like The Flash on cocaine’ for amplifying racist conspiracy theories, says John Oliver

John Oliver has condemned US President Donald Trump for promoting a ‘racist conspiracy theory’ over Kamala Harris.

On his HBO comedy series Last week last night with John Oliver, the cabaret artist played a clip from Trump’s recent press conference, in which he suggested that Democratic vice presidential candidate “does not meet the requirements” to perform, adding: “I have no idea if that’s right.” .

“I’ll tell you if it’s okay,” Oliver replied. ‘It’s not so.

“And it’s honestly amazing how slow Trump is to respond to so many things like, I do not know, public health crisis, and yet, when it comes to reinforcing racist conspiracy theories, he’s suddenly the flash of cocaine. “

Oliver also discussed Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican candidate for Congress recently endorsed by Trump who had previously spoken out about her belief in QAnon’s conspiracy theories.

Greene is heavily tipped to win a seat in her deeply conservative district in northwest Georgia.

“This should be worrying,” Oliver continued. “It is bad enough to encounter these conspiracy theories online, [but] it is worse to potentially encounter them in the halls of Congress. “

He went on to say: “I would like to be shocked that the Republican leadership includes an ongoing troll with a history of racist remarks, but the truth is that they have been doing this for years now, because you can only see Greene as a disturbing anomaly if you ignore the basic facts that when it comes to the modern Republican party, ‘Wherever one goes, they all go’.

Oliver has been a longtime critic of the controversial Republican president. Earlier this month, TV host and actor Trump remarked “shockingly reckless” about his willingness to spread misleading information in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.
