President Trump warned New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio Sunday night that the federal government would act if his office did not get a grip on the continuing increase in violent crime in the city.
“Law and order,” Trump tweeted. “If @NYCMayor can not do it, we will!”

At least five people have been killed in shootings across the city in at least 30 shootings, Fox 5 NY reported.
Eric Adams, the president of Brooklyn Borough and former NYPD captain, told the station that he does not see the “level of urgency that should come out of the city if you have a high level of violence.”
The Fox 5 NY report said there were casualties in every neighborhood and 43 shootings, 10 times the number over the same weekend in 2019.
He went on to say, “I would hate to believe that we have become immune to violence based on the geographical location and ethnicity of the victims.”
The report indicated that since the beginning of the year, there have been 1,087 shootings in the city, compared to 577 at the same time last year. The report said there were 263 deaths in the city compared to 196 in 2019.
The shooters asked the New York Post for an editorial titled, “We need someone to run for mayor who will save New York.”
“At the beginning of the Blasio era, the murder rate had dropped by almost 90 percent. Today, Gotham is plumping at warp speed – yet it is remarkably economical, “wrote the editors.
The Blasio office did not respond to Fox News for comment.
Fox Business reported Sunday that thousands of New Yorkers are leaving the city because of the challenges of dealing with vacancies for record apartments, coronavirus shutdowns and violence. The Hartford Courant reports that 16,000 New Yorkers moved their homes to Connecticut during the first three months of the pandemic.
This is not the first time Trump has called a Democratic mayor over an increase in violence and unrest over protests stemming from the death of George Floyd in police speech. He is usually met with opposition from these mayors who insist that federal troops only increase tensions in these cities. In an election year, Trump is trying to position himself as the country’s choice of law and order.
The New York City Police – Goodwill Association, which announced its endorsement of Trump last week, tweeted about the recent bloody week in the city that resulted in 12 deaths and 69 casualties.

“The reasons are not complicated,” the PBA tweeted. “Our city politicians have demonized us at every turn and in the process deprived us of the necessary tools to remove cannons from the streets. When politicians are left to deal with crime with a “light touch,” violent ties step into the void and rule terror on NYers. “
