President Donald Trump asked his lawyer if he could appoint a special adviser to investigate the insoluble week of Hunter Biden’s presidency, the Associated Press reported Tuesday.
Trump brought up the matter of appointing a special adviser to investigate White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, White House Counsel Pipit Sipolon and others, including President-elect Joe Biden’s son, Trump officials and a Republican close to the White House told AP
Sources also told the AP that Trump plans to appoint a special adviser to investigate his unsatisfactory claims of election fraud.
White House representatives did not immediately return a request for comment from Business Insider.
The report comes on the heels of Trump’s announcement on Monday that outgoing Attorney General Bill Barrow will leave the Justice Department before Christmas. In the absence of Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen Barr, the Acting Attorney General will remain.

A.P. Trump was reportedly unhappy with Burr for not publicly announcing a federal investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax. The president was also annoyed at Burr, saying the Justice Department and the FBI found no evidence of widespread voter fraud, contradicting Trump’s election conspiracy theories.
Rose said he has been “honored” for fulfilling his role as the country’s top cop and said he would “continue to focus on implementing the department’s key priorities.”
The question remains as to whether the acting attorney general will succumb to pressure from the president to conduct an investigation into his political opponents, as Trump enters office in his final few weeks. Citing the AP report, the president has asked members of his legal team, including personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, to examine whether he has the authority to appoint a special adviser.
If the investigation is conducted by the Justice Department under the Trump administration, it is likely to be a “longer and more complex investigation” than Hunter Biden’s current tax investigation.
The probe could extend the length of Biden’s inauguration by Jan. 20, which would then either keep Rosen on the next administration or appoint another attorney general. The ATP’s General Special Adviser reserves the right to terminate the investigation – but only for “specific reasons such as misconduct, term of duty or conflict of interest” according to the AP.
