Trump granted a full pardon to Alice Johnson

“We’re offering a full apology to Alice. I told her,” Trump said in the Oval Office fee with Johnson on Friday afternoon. “It means you can do whatever you want in life. Keep doing what you do best. Since Alice is out she has done an incredible job, and has recommended to others.”

In 2018, Trump approved the first non-violent drug criminal, Johnson, after Kim Kardashian West requested a case for Johnson’s release during a meeting with Trump at the Oval Office.

Josen has been sentenced to 21 years in prison after being convicted of conspiracy to possess cocaine and attempted possession of cocaine.

Criminal Justice Reform lawyer Johnson attended the Republican National Convention Thursday evening, and he told the story of his release and praised Trump’s decision to sign the Criminal Justice Reform Bill, the First Step Act.
Johnson said during his speech that Trump “saw me as a person.”

“It was a real justice reform,” Jones said of the first-step act. “And it brought joy, hope and freedom to thousands of well-deserved people. I said, ‘Hallelujah!’ My faith in justice and mercy has been restored. Imagine embracing your loved ones again. This is a feeling I will never forget. And to think, this first step made so many people realize it. “

This is the second apology issued by the President this week.

On Tuesday, Trump pardoned John Ponder, who used post-jail time to rob a bank to create a reunification program for former inmates.

Ponder’s apology was tapped at the White House during the RNC and re-broadcast.

More than two dozen individuals have been approved since Trump took office. Sometimes, the president has exercised executive power after being drowned by celebrities, friends, or insiders advocating for him to take the step. And often, he has used the power of apology to make political statements or to help old friends.

The list includes a number of orders dismissing friends and politicians involved in their crimes, including former Maricopa County Sheriff J. Arpaio, author Dinesh de Souza and former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Carrick.

Most recently, Trump overturned Roger Stone’s prison sentence, after Stone, a longtime friend and former adviser to Trump, pleaded guilty to a crime that included partly lying to Congress, lawyers said, for the president’s protection.

CNN’s Jason Hoffman, Jeremy Diamond and Caitlin Collins contributed to the report.
