President Trump did not hear the phrase “white power” shouted in a clip of his supporters that he retweeted and then deleted over the weekend, according to White House spokesman Judd Deere.
Deere told CBS News Sunday that Trump retweeted the video because it showed the “enthusiasm” his voters have for him at The Villages in Florida. He said Trump focused on the passion of the crowd and did not hear a man scream, “White power!”
“President Trump is a huge admirer of The Villages. He did not hear the only statement made on the video. What he did see was tremendous enthusiasm from his many supporters,” Deere said.
In response to that tweet, @WhiteHouse @ JuddPDeere45 says to @CBSNews:

The video in question shows several older Trump supporters yelling the President’s name and other phrases, such as “Make America Great Again,” as he parades golf carts around the city, which is exclusively for people. greater. When the parade passed an anti-Trump rally, one of the men in the video yelled, “White power!” A man who appeared to be an anti-Trump protester repeated the older man’s words in disgust, saying, “There you go, white power.”
Trump did not address the controversial comment when he shared the video.
“Thanks to the great people at The Villages,” he wrote in his caption for the retweeted post. “The radical left does nothing Democrats will fall in the fall. Corrupt Joe is assassinated. See you soon!”
Trump was widely criticized for sharing the video. Senator Tim Scott, who has been leading the Senate’s efforts in police reform and racial justice, condemned the president for retweeting the post.
“There is no doubt that he should not have retweeted it, and should simply delete it,” the South Carolina Republican told CNN on Sunday.
Soon after Scott’s interviews aired on CNN and CBS, Trump removed the post from his page.
