The lawsuit claims the problems are a “direct result” of Pennsylvania’s “hasty and illegal application of unsupervised mail voting” that the Trump campaign and Republicans claim can lead to fraud and “chaos.”

A spokeswoman for Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, a Democrat, said the department would not comment on pending litigation.

Pennsylvania passed a law last year that expanded voting by mail options to allow anyone to vote by mail without giving a reason.

However, the lawsuit argues that during June 2 primary voters used procedures that were not described in the new law, including filing ballots in the absence and by mail at places like shopping malls, parking lots, amusement parks, parks, retirement homes, college campuses, fire rooms, municipal government buildings, and offices of elected officials.

The lawsuit also says this was done with “the knowledge, consent and / or approval of the Commonwealth Secretary.”

The Trump campaign and Republicans are seeking an order prohibiting Pennsylvania from allowing absentee and mail ballots to be returned to locations other than the county board of elections offices.

They are also seeking an order prohibiting the county board of elections from counting absentee and mail-in ballots that “lack a secret envelope” or have any text or symbols on the envelopes that reveal the voter’s identity, party affiliation, or the preference of the candidates.
