The reprimand comes after the House passed legislation this week to repeal the president’s controversial travel ban.
The Democratic bill includes language aimed at reducing the President’s power to impose travel restrictions on citizens of other countries and prohibits religious discrimination in immigration decisions.
The bill would require the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security to consult with Congress before imposing a restriction. If you do not, the administration order will be considered invalid.
Trump first issued a travel ban in 2017, suspending entry to those from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia, seven predominantly Muslim countries.
