Attorneys Sidney Powell and Lynn Wood, who were accused of rigging the 2020 presidential election in the state of Georgia, were rejected by a federal judge on Friday.
President Donald Trump, without evidence, has claimed, among other things, that the Dominion Voting Systems Company’s voting machines programmed him to flip the votes cast for President-elect Joe Biden. Dominion has denied Trump’s allegations. Powell and Wood have publicly stated their agreement with Trump’s allegations and have filed lawsuits in an effort to substantiate the claims.
On Wednesday, Powell filed a filing asking the court to allow Republican voters to inspect some Dominion voting machines. Members of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals were not sure if they had the right to investigate the appeal. On Friday, Powell filed a summons alleging that the court would rule on an appeal to reduce the circumstances. Judge Andrew Bracher of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Georgia dismissed the appeal later that day. Brascher was nominated to the court by Trump in 2019 and was confirmed by the US Senate in February.
“The appeal stems from a last-minute lawsuit alleging widespread election-related misconduct and seeking extreme relief,” Brascher wrote. However, Brascher ruled that his court did not have the right to hear the appeal.
“Because we lack jurisdiction, the appeal has been denied and the motion for that
Permissible appeals are denied, “judgment concludes.” Because we must dismiss this appeal, the defendants’ conditional cross-appeal is also denied. Any other remaining motions are useless as a moot. “
Brusher’s decision is the latest blow to Trump’s campaign efforts to overturn election results in Georgia. On Friday, after a repeat of three ballots, Georgia speculated that President-elect Joe Biden had won the state election. According to the Associated Press, Biden received 49.5 percent of Georgia’s popular vote, while Trump received 49.3 percent.
Newsweek Trump reached out to the campaign for comment.
On Friday, the Trump campaign filed a separate lawsuit in Georgia seeking to invalidate the state’s election results. The filing includes an affidavit of people involved in the voting process in Georgia with alleged fraudulent activity.
Trump’s chief adviser, Ray S. Smith III, said, “The documents that were filed today clearly show that there are literally thousands of illegal votes that have been counted, and counted, and included in the tables by the Secretary of State Preparing to certify, “said Ray S. Smith III, Trump’s chief attorney. Campaign in a news release on Friday. “Large-scale irregularities, errors and potential fraud violate the Georgia Electoral Code, making it impossible to know with certainty the actual outcome of the presidency in Georgia.”
In a statement Friday, Georgia’s secretary of state, Brad Raffinsperger, said his office had “found no evidence of widespread fraud” despite multiple repetitions.
