Troy Omeire could miss 2020 season with knee injury

Texas wide receiver Troy Omeire could miss the 2020 college football season, a source close to the situation told Horns247 Sunday. Omeire left control on Saturday with a knee injury that was the head coach of the fourth year Tom Herman referred to as a “tweak.”

However, a source told Horns247 on Sunday that Omeire’s injury is as serious as an adjustment, and tore a ligament in his knee, which is substantial enough that there is a chance he will miss him for the 2020 football season.

Omeire was one of three Texas players named in the head coach’s report following Saturday’s checks. On a Zoom call with local reporters Saturday afternoon, Herman confirmed junior linebacker Juwan Mitchell and red skirt with other wide receiver Al’Vonte Woodard both left the scrimmage with ‘stingers’ and would undergo further evaluation.

Juwan Mitchell en Al’Vonte Woodard had to be kind of helped off the field, “Herman said after Saturday’s checks.

“Nothing serious. It looks like both have a stinger or head problem, but (they were) fully functional and well controlled. Towards the end, Troy Omeire kind of tweaked his knuckle a bit, non-contact just walked a route and kind of caught the turf a little uncomfortable, so we’ll evaluate him from noon. “

In addition to the injuries, two other Longhorns have opted to take down the 2020 season due to concerns about COVID-19. Senior defense line Marqez Bimage and senior runs back Daniel Young has decided to sit out this season, although the head coach hopes the two will rejoin the Longhorns as the current pandemic begins to calm down.

“You all know the two guys who made the decision not to play this year. They will wait and see and hopefully join our team on the field again,” said Herman of Bimage and Young.
