Tropical Storm Marco, no longer a hurricane, set to make landfall in Louisiana

Tropical storm Marco, weakened by hurricane strength, is expected to make landfall in the northern Gulf Coast on Monday.

The storm is expected to make landfall in Louisiana by noon.

“#Marco weakened last night but is still a threat to parts of the northern Gulf Coast,” the National Hurricane Center tweeted Monday morning.

“Gusty winds, dangerous storm surges and heavy rainfall are expected from Marco along parts of the Gulf Coast starting later today,” the National Water Service said in a statement. “Interests in these areas should follow all advice given by government officials.”

Tropical Storm Laura was predicted to move along the south coast of Cuba on Monday, before entering the Gulf of Mexico and later in the week following the same line off the U.S. coast, presumably as a hurricane.

“Tropical Storm Laura could bring additional storm surge, rain and wind impact to parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast by the middle of the week,” the National Water Service said in its advice. “This could result in a longer period of dangerous weather for areas that could also be affected by Marco. Interests there should monitor Marco and Laura’s progress and updates for the forecast in the coming days. ”
