Tropical storm Isaias, according to the National Hurricane Center, now includes North Carolina

RALEIGH (WTVD) – Tropical storm Isaias formed in southern Puerto Rico, and its projected path currently follows the east coast and through North Carolina.

While that road is still a long way off and could change dramatically, right now it looks like Isaias will at least bring rain to parts of North Carolina next week.

Tropical storm Isaias hit Puerto Rico early Thursday morning with strong winds and heavy rain.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Isaias has sustained a wind of 60 miles per hour and is moving west northwest at 21 miles per hour.

The center of Isaías is expected to move over Hispaniola on Thursday night. When tropical systems move over the mountainous Hisponiola region, they are often difficult to predict. The path and strength of storms will likely change in the coming days.

The storm’s cone of uncertainty now includes North Carolina. Current projections say the storm will be in the force of the tropical storm when it hits our shores Monday through Tuesday night.

Stay with the ABC11 First Alert Weather team as they monitor this storm and any threats it may bring to North Carolina.
