Last year, YouTuber and photographer Andrew Levitt teamed up with their friends Jacob Phillips and Taylor Gray to recreate all of Apple’s default wallpapers included in macOS Catalina.
After Apple’s presentation of macOS Big Sur at the WWDC conference in June, they again set out to recreate Apple’s new default wallpaper, unprepared, in just a week.
However, the task was even more challenging this time, as the default wallpaper for macOS Big Sur shows the dramatic rugged mountainous area of the Central Coast region of California from a high point elevated 4,000 feet above the ocean. .
After doing a little research, Levitt and his friends discovered that a drone would not be able to fire, and flying drones off the Big Sur coast is illegal anyway. The team then contacted a helicopter pilot, who happened to be the same pilot who flew in with the Apple photographer himself to get the original shot.
After having to deal with the thick fog on the first try, the team came out a second time and managed to get the same shot. Watch the original video to see some dramatic images captured off the coast of Big Sur.
