Two California states, San Joaquin Valley and Southern California, have sparked new state stay-at-home orders after capacity in their intensive care units fell below 1%, according to the California Department of Public Health.
The new sanctions, which will last for at least three weeks from the end of Sunday, resulted in 25,068 new Covid-19 cases being reported in the state on Friday, according to the CDPH.
The state will be divided into five parts – Bay Area, Greater Sacramento, Northern California, San Joaquin Valley and Southern California, Governor Gavin News said Thursday. If the remaining ICU capacity in a region falls below 15%, it will stimulate stay-at-home orders, he said. The new measure aims to keep Californians from mingling with people living inside their homes and holding gatherings inside. However, people are still encouraged to do things outside, such as walking their dog, exercising, going sledding or walking on the beach, News News May said.
On Friday, San Francisco Bay Area health officials announced they would not wait for their ICU capacity to sink below the 15% threshold and said they would implement the order as soon as possible.
