Trevor Noah: Why was Jacob Blake shot, not Kyle Rittenhouse?

Trevor Noah has some questions – and answers – about the situation that is developing in Kenosha, Wis., After the shooting of Jacob Blake police.

On Wednesday’s episode of “The Daily Show”, Noah shared his thoughts on the protests that erupted after Blake, an unarmed Black man, was shot several times by police for his young children.

Shortly before “The Daily Show” aired, Kyle Rittenhouse, a white teenager armed with a semi-automatic rifle, was accused of killing two Protestants the night before.

“How come Jacob Blake was seen as a deadly threat to a theoretical gunman – that he might have and would try to commit a crime – but this gunman, who was armed and had already shot people, who had seen let him be a threat, was he arrested the next day, given a full due process of the law, and generally treated like a man whose life is at stake? ”Noah said.

‘I ask these as questions, but I feel we know the answer. The answer is that the gun is not as important as who holds the gun. Because for some people, black skin is the most threatening weapon of all. ”

On the eve of Rittenhouse’s arrest, spectators warned police that the 17-year-old – who, as a minor, was not legally allowed to carry a weapon openly – was walking the streets with a gun around his neck. The young man, who attended a Trump rally this year and showed support from social media for the pro-police Blue Lives Matter movement, told reporters at the scene that he traveled to Kenosha to protect businesses from vandalism.

“Some guy decided to drive to Kenosha with his ‘militia’ buddies to protect a business and apparently shot three people and killed two,” Noah said. “But do not worry – the company is OK. And let me tell you something: Nobody drives a city with guns because they love someone else’s company.

“No one ever thought, ‘Oh, it’s my solemn duty to pick up a gun and protect that TJ Maxx.’ They do it because they hope to shoot someone. That’s the only reason people like him join these gangs in the first place. And yes, I said it: a gang. Enough with this ‘militia’ b—. “This is not the Battle of Yorktown. It’s a bunch of dudes threatening people with guns.”

Noah also sounded down on police brutality and the lack of “any accountability of the police” because “these incidents remain an open wound, and the pain and anger build and build simply without closure or relief.” No officers have been charged in Blake’s shooting.

“I will never be used to how fast police go from issuing commands to using deadly force,” Noah said. “What happened to warning shots or tackling a suspect? Are we really meant to believe that the only two options a police officer has is to do nothing or shoot someone in the back seven times?

‘That’s all we have? I mean think about it: Even when wild animals are released on the streets, they do not always shoot to kill. They have sedatives. They have nets. I never thought I would want Black people to at least be treated like a wild bear, but here we are. “

In addition to his powerful remarks about Kenosha, Noah on Thursday also made headlines for trolling President Trump with full-page advertisements in the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times for “Trevor Noah & Associates & Sons Presidential Attorneys.”

“ARE YOU A FAST PRESIDENT? About losing legal immunity? ”Reads the false ad. “HAVE YOUR JOURNEY JEILED? Call the very nice people on YOUR side. ”

According to Mashable, the phone number listed in the ads (1-210-WH-CRIME) is real, and callers are offered two options when calling. Those who press 1 confirm that they are the president will receive the following prompt message:

‘Hello, Mr President. I’m Trevor Noah, managing partner of Trevor Noah and Associates and Sons. Have you ever been to Uganda, sir? It is a beautiful country with a strong goat-based economy. And most importantly, it does not deliver to the United States.

“At any time on or before January 20, 2021, I can transport you and all the members of your family who you actually want to Uganda. I can provide the service for, I do not know, $ 10 million. Let me know. Oh, and if you made a mistake, and you’re not really the president, press or say now 2. Otherwise, see you, Mr. President. ”

Callers who press 2, indicating that they are not the president, will hear this:

“Congratulations on not being the president! Since you do not need a lawyer specializing in presidential crime, why not try votevotevote.com to ensure that you have registered to vote in the election? That’s right. This is an announcement for public services. Gotcha! Either way, please check your voter registration and make a plan to vote. Goodbye.”
