Garner, NC – Many lines to get tested COVID-19 in North Carolina are long, and some people report that they waited more than a week to get their results.
A Town of Garner testing center at the Avery Street Recreation Center had to stop evaluating people earlier than expected on Thursday because the center ran out of COVID-19 testing. Before noon, 361 people had been evaluated.
Dr. Mandy Cohen, Secretary, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, said more tests are being done on more people as confirmed positive cases continue to rise.
Cohen said that while demand for evidence is high and wait times can be long, North Carolina can still accommodate everyone who wants proof.
“Our response capabilities are stable, although there are longer wait times for test results,” he said.
WRAL News spoke to the people who were tested, and some said they waited two weeks for results, the duration of a period of complete isolation. On Wednesday at a Smithfield test site, the lines were wrapped around the parking lot, and witnesses said the cars were online two hours before testing began.
Johnston County Health Director Marilyn Pearson said at 14%, the positive test rate in Johnston County is high, making response time difficult.
