Touchdown goes a long way for the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson vs. Patriots

SEATTLE – DK Metcalfe made a game-changing touchdown in the Seattle Seahawks ’season opener last week, when he blew the Atlanta Falcons Cornwack Isaiah Oliver on the fourth-and-3 play.

The victim of Metcalfe’s second touchdown on Sunday was NPL’s defensive player of the year, New England Patriots cornerback Stephen Gilmore.

The Seahawks ’second-year wide receiver showed he had the power to move forward with brilliance when quarterback Russell Wilson threw an over-the-shoulder throw to fight a 54-yard touchdown when he came into contact with Gilmore. It was Wilson’s second passing touchdown of the game.

The play connects the Seahawks-Patriots match at 14 midfield in the second quarter. According to ESPN statistics and data, Gilmore was the first touchdown to be allowed as the closest defender in coverage since 2018. Last season, Gilmore had a league-high 96 goals without allowing a TD.

Gilmore has been in the shadow of Metcalfe for most of the first half of the game.

In the middle of the third quarter, Wilson passed a beauty, 38-yard touchdown to wide receiver David Moore. The Seahawks led the Patriots 21-17 with seven minutes left in the third quarter.

According to NFL Next General statistics, Wilson’s 38-yard TD pass has a 6.3% probability of ending – the lowest on a completed pass this season and the third lowest since he started tracking metrics in 2017.

Wills threw his fourth touchdown of the game, a 21-yard strike to Freddie Swain, two minutes left in the third quarter.

Less than five minutes later, Wilson threw his fifth touchdown pass at night, 18-yard to Chris Carson. Wilson’s five passing touchdowns are the most involved in the game against the Bill Belichick-coached team. Drew Bryce also threw five in 2009.

The touchdown gave the Seahawks a 35-23 lead.
