Tottenham Hotspur have made their first signing of the 2020 transfer window, confirming the purchase of defensive midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.
The deal has been reported by multiple stores as £ 15m, with additions raising it to £ 19m. The additions have not been confirmed by the club.
Hojbjerg will carry the # 5 kit for the club.
The 25-year-old Danish international made 134 appearances for Southampton after being acquired by Schalke 04 in the summer of 2016. Hojbjerg, a product of the Bayern Munich youth academy, is expected to close directly in the starting XI as the DM in front of the back line.
This is great company for the club. While this is not the most hefty transfer, it is probably the most important for the club. Spurs have been missing a true defensive midfielder for a while and Hojbjerg signs all the boxes. He’s also getting pretty cheap, given the sale of Kyle Walker-Peters is expected to be worth £ 12m.
Enough analysis from me. Welcome Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg Welcome to Tottenham Hotspur!
