Top military leaders self-quarantine after positive coronavirus test at Pentagon

WASHINGTON – Top military leaders are committing suicide after one of the Coast Guard’s service chiefs tested positive for coronavirus, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

Adam, Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard. Charles Ray tested positive for coronavirus on Monday after experiencing mild symptoms of a fatal disease over the weekend.

Last week, Ray attended meetings at the Pentagon, some of which included members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the country’s top military leaders.

“The chairman, vice chairman and all the joint chiefs have been negatively tested,” a defense official told CNBC. The person added, “No one showed any symptoms.”

The Pentagon said there were no further positive tests after Ray.

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in an emailed statement Tuesday that “with great caution, all possible close contacts at these meetings are self-quarantined and have been tested this morning,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in an emailed statement Tuesday. Hoffman added that the Pentagon was conducting more contact tracing as well as additional testing.

Hoffman added, “There is no change in the operational readiness or mission capability of the U.S. Armed Forces. Senior military leaders are fully capable of being mission capable and performing their duties from an alternative workplace,” Hoffman added.

The latest revelation comes as President Donald Trump returns to the White House after taking care of the Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Trump announced early Friday that he and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus. The announcement came after the president said he would begin the quarantine process after top aide Hope Hicks tested positive for the coronavirus.

Mike Pence, the next vice president for the presidency, and his wife, Karen, have been tested negatively every day since Friday.

Secretary of Defense Mark Asper and Chairman General of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Mark Mill met with Trump at the Gold Star Families event at the White House on Sunday. Asper again tested negative for coronavirus on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Mili, the country’s highest-ranking military officer, was undergoing a negative test on Friday morning. Millie is curating at home, NBC News quoted three officials as saying.

Other top Pentagon leaders were also at Sunday’s event and have since tested negative: the Army Chief of Staff General. James McConville; Chief of Staff General of the Air Force. Charles Brown; Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett; Chief of Space Operations John Raymond; And David Burger, Commandant General of the Marine Corps.

Health experts say that even with a negative test, it is wise to isolate for 48 hours after exposure.
