On November 23, 2019, Miami coach Manny Diaz called the FIU 30-24 defeat, “the lowest point ever in the history of this proud event.” A little over a year later, that statement is still valid. It was a loss, and still is, the worst imaginable outcome for a hurricane program. But North Carolina is running 554 yards running in boat૨–26.
When you think of Miami’s great teams, you think of bulldog defenders like Sean Taylor and Ed Reed. Even if the 2020 hurricane isn’t one of Miami’s best teams, you think they’ll at least take a good angle to cope. Instead, there was all sorts of room in the open field with Michael Carter and Javante running behind Williams. And when no Was In their way, this stuff came:
It gets worse. The 778 total yards raised by Tar Hills are the highest ever approved by the hurricane program. And, yes, North Carolina has a big offense with the top-five unit coming up Saturday. But this is still the North Carolina team that lost to Florida State. It’s a good team … but it’s not a good playoff.
The stories behind these offensive blows are devastatingly poetic. Keep in mind that the coach on the other side, Mac Brown, was once Diaz’s boss in Texas. In fact, the last time the Manny Diaz-led defense left too many yards (550 in a 40-21 loss to BYU in 2013), he was fired by Brown the next day.
Can Diaz take the same step with defensive coordinator Black Baker? At 8-2 p.m., the hurricane is so good that the safety of Diaz’s job isn’t really an issue, but other changes could be on the horizon. Nevertheless, Miami now faces two losses of historic historical nature while Diaz is in charge, which is a bad omen under his watch.
Granted, 2020 will tax everyone. Sometimes, you don’t know which team to show, but Miami will end its regular season for 2021 on a sour note with Diaz forcing the U.S. state to keep a close eye.
Here’s what we learned from Saturday’s action in Week 15.
The wild shoe toss is the only tear from Florida’s body, but in fact, Johnson was instrumental in LSU’s surprise 374-34 win in Florida on Saturday night. A true fresh man, making his first start – on the road, no less – was definitely good enough to put his team in a winning position. Throwing in with 239 yards and three touchdowns without interruptions is an excellent spot. Junior Miles Brennan will probably still be a starter going forward, but Johnson showed that he was so good at pushing Brennan even though he wasn’t perfect. Don’t be surprised if one day this LSU is going to run a crime.
Georgia will be the most hyped team of 2021
I’m calling him now. Worth it or not, the Bulldogs won’t love a ton of se fisson, and it will do a lot to come back with a really good core of quarterback Jetty Daniels and the weapons around him. A 49-14 victory over Missouri in 2020 was an image of what it felt like to be a crime of Georgia. While Alabama and Florida showed some of the best offenses in college football, Georgia just couldn’t win with the defense. It’s not entirely their fault; Jamie Newman was out and Daniels was not healthy enough to go until the end of last month. In any case, 2020 did not live up to the expectations of many – but hopefully next year. Daniels has had 839 yards, nine touchdowns and just one peak in his three games at the end of the season. With RB Zameer White and WR George Pickens having big games against the Tigers, there’s a lot to be excited about what’s going on back then. Add to the Bulldogs’ general defensive success, and this team will be loaded next year.
USC is one of the biggest escape artists in college football
Cats are jealous that U.S.C. How much life does coach Clay Halton have. In this 2020 season alone, U.S.C. A won three games that could easily be lost, a 43-38 thriller over cross-town rivals UCLA on Saturday. He also pulled off narrow victories against Arizona and the state of Arizona early in his season, after which the latter hung up a 70-burger by the former and fired his coach.
It looks like the Trojans could be a playoff bound team if they only have five minutes to play. The win over the Bruins puts the USC at least in the sports bar conversation about the playoffs because it is unbeaten. It will be interesting to see how the committee places this team on Tuesday. But in effect, Pack-12 is not a playoff factor this year. That doesn’t really change after this week, and now USC and Washington will play a pack-12 championship game against an opponent in Washington that is well rested due to canceled games.
Greg Shiano should get the coach of the year
With a 27-24 overtime win over Maryland on Saturday, the Rutgers will go to the Big Ten Champions with a chance to win four times since 2017 for the first time at 3-5 p.m. It may not seem like a big deal nationally, but consider what the Rutgers were when Shiano took office. Big Ten game average score for Scarlett Knights in 2019? He was 39-5 with four shutouts on that team. Rutgers was the least-funny joke to be told; They were terrible.
Now look at them. They have been the least competitive in almost every sport. They are not far from being .500 or better; They lost their last-second field goal against Illinois and took Michigan to three overtime. In a year when it would be pretty easy to mail her early, Scarlett Knights was one of the few teams that seemed to really want to go there every week.
There are a number of national COTY awards, and it’s true that they shouldn’t automatically go into a coach carrying too much based on preconceived expectations. Guys like Nick Saban deserve credit for building complete death machines in Alabama, but the guy who was skeptical of hiring Shiano again, how do you see this team compared to last year and not see the biggest change of any FBS program?
Iowa is a hot team right now
With a 21-20 defeat to the Northwest, Iowa has beaten six straight wins, most recently a confident (albeit perfect) victory over Wisconsin at -7 28-7. It’s also a particularly meaningful win, as the Hookies haven’t beaten Wisconsin since 2015, as the Badgers have owned Iowa over the past decade.
Iowa has really developed over the last few months and has lost two of its games by a combined five points. This team is not far from being unbeaten. Quarterback Spencer Petraeus has put up good back-to-back games, and on Saturday Wisconsin was kept at 2.6 yards per second in defense while the sack yard was out. (Separately, Wisconsin has not been able to run consistently this year.) Granted, the road from the Big Ten West to Iowa is not the most difficult, but it has been quietly put up with a strong season. The Big Ten Champions Weeks have a good chance of meeting the Hawkeyes next week – and it will be a more exciting matchup than the Ohio State-Northwestern in the actual conference championship game.
