What is ‘Top Gun 2’ about?

Top Gun 2 It is set 30 years from the original 1986 film and, once again, follows the story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise). Although many of the characters are the same, the story will be very different.

In the past three decades, Maverick has risen to the rank of Captain, a position that gives him much more responsibility than the last movie. Fans will also be introduced to Goose’s son (Anthony Edwards), played by Miles Teller, while Val Kilmer returns as Iceman.

Aside from the broader points in the story, the producers haven’t revealed much about the plot in the sequel. Cruise, however, recently assured fans that Top Gun 2 It is going to be much grander than anything you have ever seen.

Cruise reveals what made ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ special

Cruise opened on Top Gun 2 in an interview with Empire a few months ago. According to Express, the actor revealed that he had a conversation with executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer about not using CGI in the movie.

The decision to avoid CGI presented unique challenges for the cast and crew. And a recent teaser for the film shows how far they went to capture live footage of the F-18s in action.

“We just started talking. And I realized there were things we could achieve cinematically, “Cruise shared. “And I started to get excited about this great challenge of ‘How do we do it?’ So I said to Jerry, ‘I will if …’, which means I’m not going to do CGI stuff. ”

In one of the trailer clips, Cruise is shown taking intense G-force while piloting an F-18. It turns out that the actors were filmed inside planes and Cruise, who already has experience as a pilot, prepared to fly one of the fF18s for the film.

This is a big change from the original. In the 1980s, they tried to put actors on jets, but they all ended up getting sick, rendering the images useless.

In the same interview, Cruise revealed that he warned the study that not using CGI for jet images would be a very difficult process. After all, they had to make sure that the Top Gun the actors could travel in F-18 without getting sick.

“I said to the studio, ‘You don’t know how difficult this movie is going to be,'” he explained. “No one has ever done this before. There has never been an aerial sequence filmed this way. I don’t know if there will ever be another time, to be honest. “

Earlier in the year, Bruckheimer also shared his thoughts on the film and echoed much of what Cruise shared. In his interview, Bruckheimer added that they had subjected all the actors to a three-month training regimen that prepared them to resist the G-forces.

He noted that it was “hard work” for many of the cast members, especially when they had to complete “water survival training.” But when it came to Cruise, the coaches told Bruckheimer that he had finished training “like a 22-year-old would.”

Not bad for the 57-year-old actor.
