But the reason may be different than you think.
Tom Cruise is the king of bouncing across the silver screen in thrilling action sequences, but he apparently does not want anyone to run next to him, at least according to one of his “The Mummy” co-stars.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Annabelle Wallis claims that she was the only actor who had enough athleticism and conviction to prove a worthy running partner for the legendary movie star.
“I had to walk with him on screen, but he told me no at first,” she explained. “He said, ‘No one is running on the screen [with me], ‘and I said,’ But I’m a really good runner. ‘”
The British star then came up with a plan to sprint next to the “Minority Report” icon.
“That, I would put my treadmill on time so he would run in and see me run,” she continued. “And then he added all these running scenes. That, that was it.”
That it appears that Cruise is pursuing the proven policies regarding partners is not based on some inherent insecurity, but actually a protective instinct, because he himself is so superhumanly fast and good at running? However, it seems that the action hero was well impressed by Wales’ determination and natural athletic skills.
After her hard work paid her off, Wallis said she was excited to break Cruise’s supposed running restriction.
“It was, like, better than an Oscar,” she laughed. “I was so happy! I was so happy that I came on screen with Tom Cruise.”
Wallis’ anecdote from Cruise adds to the idea that the “Mission Impossible” star is a full-fledged professional while working on a movie.
Iconic roles that were almost played by radically different actors

In May, Rob Lowe revealed how his co-star “The Outsiders” was cautious in preparing for his role, and even called for doing his 18-year-old stunts.
“He was the only one who could do a backflip,” Lowe said on the Armchair Expert podcast. “It’s in the movie ‘The Outsiders’ for no reason. He runs out of the house and does no backflip for no reason. Just to do it.”
“For me, what’s great about the story are the certain people who have always been who they are,” he continued. “And that element of them has driven them to where they are today and the rest is history.”
“And the notion that an 18-year-old actor with a walk-on part in ‘Endless Love’ and like a seventh lead in ‘Taps’ could have kind of had that.”
Cruise can next be seen in the sequel “Top Gun”, “Maverick,” which has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
