Todd Nance, founding member of Widwide Panic, has died

Nance died early Wednesday in Athens, Georgia, of “sudden and unexpected complications of a chronic illness,” his family said.

“Todd was the engine of the Widspread Panic,” the band said in a statement. “He wrote great songs, and was a giving and forgiving contributor.”
Nance was the band’s wedding band for three decades, selling more than three million albums, performing at sold-out shows across the country and majoring in major music festivals.
“It’s not that we’re the Beatles as anything,” Nance told CNN before a 2003 show at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. “Here, the band and the audience are responsible for each other’s existence.”

“T Man was the example of a ‘team player’,” the band wrote in their statement. “Drive the tire and drive the delivery bus.”

“Funny, adventurous and a very kind Soul, we wish Todd and his Family peace in this sad time after so many happy times,” the statement said.

No services are currently planned, the Nance family said in their statement.
