While the 49ers find themselves with more draft picks this season than ever before, and despite having more holes to fill those draft picks, don’t be surprised to see them trade back in the first round from number one. 12 overall picks. ESPN’s Todd Ms Kashaye illustrates a scenario in which San Francisco returns to raise some significant draft capital, but his choice is a bit scratchy.
The trade back would make a lot of sense for the 49ers in a scenario where all four quarterbacks go into the first four picks, thus bringing out the mockery of the maxi. If San Francisco was going to drop for a quarterback at 12 o’clock, it probably needs to be one of the top prospects like Zack Wilson, Justin Fields or Tray Trains. They are less likely to take a QB with a 12th choice.
Without slipping any top cubes, the 49ers trade with the Bears. Chicago is ranked 12th in the 20th, 52nd and 2022 drafts in exchange for first or second-round selection. It’s a very long distance for San Francisco to go back to eight places where they still pick in the top 20. It would also give them two second-round picks that they could use to maneuver at the back end of the first round, or a third-round pick deal after sending Warris Washington to Trent Williams’ trade.
All of this makes a lot of sense for San Francisco. Although a laundry list of their needs is provided, their choice by McShaw is a surprise. With a choice of No. 20, 49 people snag TCU safety Trevon Mohrig in McShey’s mock draft.
The 6-2, 202-pound safety could be a long-term response to the free 49 agency secondary with Jakiski Tart, and Jimmy Ward has uncertainty ahead of his contract, which expires after the 2022 season. Mohrig will never play the role of security of captured box boxes like Tart. If 49 people like it, it could signal a change in defensive philosophy or a tabbed hint for a free agency without restrictions on Nicole Cornbourc with Ward Williams.
The other player available at number 20 is the Michigan Defensive and Quite Pay, who goes to the Colts on the 21st at McShey’s Mock. Pay is a 6-4, 272-pound defensive end who lost 16.5 tackles and 8.5 sacks in the final 16 games for the Wolverines. He is a good athlete with some versatility who can play well in the 49ers front who needs hard help.
While the player taken with the pick can be discussed, and the team’s needs change after free agency, this type of trade can be expected if there is an offer. As long as 49 people don’t believe 12 is likely, as long as they give more flexibility on days 2 and 3 of the year there will be some spot slide back to pick a few draft capitals. Their roster with cheap rookie talent.
