Todd Davis, Von Miller, Melvin Gordon suffer practice injuries, Hamler out with hamstring injury

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Inside linebacker Todd Davis left early Thursday after suffering a leg injury. He was helped off the field by members of the training staff and was then driven to a locker room on a cart.

“Todd hit his leg there; I was not sure [what happened], “Said head coach Vic Fangio after the practice.” It kind of happened at the end of the exercise on the other side of the field from where I was. I’m not sure yet; I have nothing to report there. “

Two other Broncos suffered injuries during practice because outside linebacker Von Miller and running back Melvin Gordon III were kept out of team periods in the final half of practice.

“Von tweaked his elbow so we pulled him out,” Fangio said. “And Melvin tweaked his ribs, so we pulled him out too. Didn’t know the seriousness of one of them.”

The Broncos were also without one of their key young receivers at practice on Thursday, as KJ Hamler was sidelined with a hamstring injury that may sideline him by the end of the month.

“KJs have a hamstring that he tried to work through,” Fangio said. “He has not been able to do that, and he will be on the board for a few weeks.”

Hamler suffered a hamstring injury while training for the 2020 NFL Combine earlier this year. He did not run at the event due to the injury.

Broad receiver Juwann Winfree (body) was also sidelined for the refurbished exercise, although he did something to the side. On Wednesday, he was back to activities with plenty of speed and drills for team time, but the team was only in shells for that exercise, unlike Thursday’s practice in full pads.

However, the team received some good news on Thursday, as tight end Noah Fant (illness), cornerback Davontae Harris (knee threat) and outer linebacker Bradley Chubb (rest day) returned after being absent for Wednesday’s practice. Each received reps during the team periods of the day.

Fangio said Wednesday that Fant’s illness was not related to COVID-19.

The tight end group was still without two players, though Nick Vannett continued to go through the concussion protocol and Austin Fort recovered from a knee injury.
