As the Washington franchise continues an accelerated process to select a new name and logo, team owner Daniel Snyder is doing everything possible to prevent leaks. To do this, through Les Carpenter de la Washington PostSnyder is “relying heavily on a small group of advisers that includes coach Ron Rivera.”
Snyder’s concern, according to the report, is that the involvement of too many outside opinions could lead to the disclosure of possible names or logos to the media.
So far, it has worked. No one knows which names are being seriously considered, and no one knows much about the review process. Carpenter reports that the team hopes to have the new name before the start of training camp on July 28.
The issue of trademark rights continues to float over the process. It will be difficult for the team to keep the process of ensuring trademark protections completely silent.
Anyway, unless the training camp is delayed, there will be a new name within the next 13 days.
