INDIANAPOLIS – A tire changer for NASCAR driver Ryan Blaney was rushed to a hospital after injuring himself early Sunday at the Brickyard 400.
Zachary Price was caught between Blaney’s No. 12 Ford and Brennan Poole’s No. 15 Chevrolet, the result of a six-car collision near the pit pit entrance 16 laps into the Cup Series race.
Five of the drivers were checked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield medical center and released. Blaney, meanwhile, returned to the race.
NASCAR said Price had been transported to a hospital for further evaluation.
The race was marked red on lap 16 when track workers attempted to clear debris and attend to Price, who was placed on a stretcher. He appeared to be smiling before being placed inside an ambulance.
Blaney drives Roger Penske, who bought the circuit in November from the Hulman-George family.
Justin Allgaier, the replacement for seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, was also involved in the crash and left the race. Johnson’s streak of 663 consecutive starts ended after he tested positive for the coronavirus on Friday.
