Alabama football wants a season, but some make things worse.
Students return to campuses around the country. As they do so, all eyes are set on seeing how it will affect COVID-19 cases. Things are not getting off to a great start in Tuscaloosa, and this Alabama football player is calling people out.
Chris Owens is a fifth year senior on the offensive line for the Crimson Tide, and he needs college football more than almost anyone. However, he thinks the fanbase can do more to help us get there. He recently posted this on Twitter.
The image he posted includes what appears to be more than 100 students waiting to enter a bar on the Strip, just a few hundred yards away from Bryant-Denny Stadium. Very few protectors wear masks, and none are socially distant.
This goes against the mask order instituted by Governor Kay Ivey. Business in Alabama has declined since the institution was established, and that optimism is helping to make college football possible. However, we need to see what happens in the next few weeks.
Students were required to test for COVID-19 before starting classes again, but that will not do much. Some students were tested at home, and others had to wait several days before their results returned. They could have received a negative test and assigned COVID-19 while waiting for the result.
We’ll have to see how the SEC responds to a potential increase in positive testing, but they are trying their best to have a season of football. With them trying to do this, we need to do our part as well. That includes staying social distance as much as possible, wearing masks and staying home when we feel sick.
These actions will save lives. That should be enough of a reason to do so. If not here’s a new product just for you! Alabama football does its best to stay safe, but they can not do it by themselves unless they are in a bubble. If they go to classes with students and work on projects, they are at risk. We will have to see how the situation develops for the predicted start of the college football season.
