Free advice to anyone who feels addicted these days: Tilda Swinton Take charge of your life. With her chartreuse suit and stingray-scalp face mask, she has single-handedly survived the Venice Film Festival red carpet.
That’s not to say the 77th annual iteration, which usually brings Hollywood’s glitter United Mess to Canals City, isn’t as weird as hell right now.
Like the Tender Hill model, some of the attendees turned off such prole-ish accessories as masks. On the red carpet of the opening night, in a photo taken of Victoria’s Secret Angel, dripping in chopped diamonds and a paisley itro gown, you can see festival workers running after her in blue medical coverings.
Many Italian influencers, who have replaced American celebrities who would normally be there but were rather ruined inside their compounds, have less of a mask even when ing bho in the outdoor space. In a way, it makes the Venice Film Festival look like your local Walmart, but with more tulle and feathers.
Then there’s this year’s jury chair Swinton and Kate Blanchett who make a big difference about their mask habits. They are, in a sense, festive moms. They promote social distance by sitting two seats apart from each other in the screening.
Not that it would be hard to find a place on the red carpet. There is a shortage of celebs, and if the rumble grows in Italy, one will pass through there.
Blanchett promises to recycle the back gown from the old red carpet for this in a nod to the strictness. I live in New York, which is a whole ocean ahead of Venice, but knowing she still has a charge makes me feel like a wave of calm washing.
Sweeton, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award, did not have any nails even when she packed her suitcase. She was honored by Chanel in a white cotton smoke blouse and black tiered skirt. It was pretty boring and what would I wear if I was given a chance to get dressed after six months of not going anywhere, but luckily it was her custom James T. Saved by Mary Mask.

Sweetie kept the gilded-face covering by its long handle. With its intricate cutouts, it resembled the very inflammatory plague doctor cutter he wore in the 15th century. It may not have the seal of approval of the CDC, but Sweeton also regularly wore a white mask with it. She put it back, so the gold wouldn’t collide with her shiny new award.
Blanchett’s first night outfit took us back to the smooth days of 2015. She wore a slinky, metallic Esteban Cortazar gown in which she had previously premiered. Carol. The Colombian-American designer wrote on Instagram that a dress resembling Mary’s mask was created for Swinton as a tribute to Stingrays. Maybe they are the true breakout stars of the Venice Film Festival.
