Thousands of cars line up to collect food in the cove-hit Texas

Texas became the first state in the US with more than 1 million Kovid-19 infections
The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) distributed more than 600,000 pounds of food to about 25,000 people on Saturday, spokeswoman Anna Kurien said. Kurien told CNN that 7,280 chickens were distributed among the families.
Photos provided by NTFB show thousands of cars lined up for NTFB’s drive-through mobile pantry at Fair Park. Kurien said the need for food has “definitely increased” with the epidemic, with Texas becoming the first state in the U.S. to register 1 million cases of coronavirus last week.

“This is the first time 40 percent of people coming through our partners’ doors are doing this.”

“I see the blessings coming at us that we’re all struggling with. And I appreciate North Texas helping us,” Dallas resident Samantha Woods told CNN-affiliated KTVT as she waited in her vehicle.

“It’s really amazing and I thank God I was able to get in line this morning.”

North Texas Food Bank distributed more than 600,000 meals at the Nov. 14 event.

In another car, a woman told the station she was struggling: “I haven’t worked since December. I can’t get a job. They cut my unemployment – it’s a big deal. It’s a really big deal.”

NTFB President Trisha Kananhing said she was “proud of her team and the community for providing a little hope and care in this extraordinary time.”

“It was a very humble scene to see so many people in need,” he told CNN.

NTFB has many mobile pantry events scheduled throughout the week.
