This petition calls for more inclusive hairstyles in ‘Animal Crossing’

Nintendo‘s Animal Crossing: New Horizons made his debut just in time for coronavirus lockdown back in March. Because of the timing, the video game has been quite a staple for many in quarantine.

Still some players are asking now Animal Crossing to make the game more inclusive. A petition asking the game to make more inclusive hairstyles has been launched and has already earned more than 40,000 signatures.

The fierce, easy-going game has captured the hearts of many this year. In fact, after the launch, Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold more than 13.41 million units in its first six weeks. Similarly, just 11 days after launch, more than 11.7 million people picked up their copies.

The new game offers more tweaks than ever before. Players can make them now Animal Crossing characters even more realistic with several customizable options, including birthmarks. Despite the success of the game and advanced gaming features, some players still want to Animal Crossing to be more inclusive.

Player Taniesha Bracken-Hucks launched a petition asking the game to add more inclusive capsules. After playing the game, Bracken-Hucks notes that there is a shortage of various capsules available for customizable characters.

‘Every person should feel represented when he plays a game that she loves and makes her avatar. Ethnic hairstyles are often forgotten, ”Bracken-Hucks said on the petition’s page. “In light of what’s going on in America regarding Black Rights, it would be great to represent gamers of all races on all gaming platforms. Let’s start with Animal Crossing! Let’s create an environment of inclusivity and acceptance in this already great game. ”

Since its launch, the petition has garnered more than 40,000 signatures. The petition has now been live for a few months and has led to a number of comments about the game’s lack of inclusivity.

‘Why should I find my right hair when others can’t? This game is for everyone, and that means EVERY representative deserves it, ”writes one petitioner.

It is no secret that the representation of Black people in the gaming industry is lacking. In 2014, a study found that only 3 percent of the main characters in the top 10 highest rated games each year from 2007-2012 were black.

Petitions like these Animal Crossing one have led to previous changes in the gaming sector. Earlier this week, that was announced The Sims 4 contains extra dark skin tones and improves the quality of existing shades in the game. This change comes after more than 86,000 people signed a petition demanding more diversity.
