Diablo fans, here’s something really cool for you today. Michael ReznoR has shared a video showing the classic Diablo 2 game enhanced in 4K and running at 60fps. Therefore, this video will give you an idea of what a suitable and faithful Diablo 2 remaster could be like.
To create this video, Michael ReznoR used Deep Learning Neural Network AI and Advanced Motion Interpolation. By using these techniques, ReznoR was able to enhance, enhance, and smooth the original Diablo 2 game.
As ReznoR noted:
Diablo II: Lord of Destruction runs at 800×600 with a limit of 25 fps. The original 4: 3 aspect ratio and graphics window are retained here, and as a bonus, the familiar EAX surround effects and 3D audio from the older Creative Sound Blaster Audigy / X-Fi cards are enabled in this demo, as well as head-related transfer function (HRTF). “
The end result is retro-spectacular, and we recommend watching the video. However, unfortunately, this is just a video enhancement project and not a real mod for Diablo 2. In other words, there is no way to experience Diablo 2 this way.
In January 2020, we informed you about an AI-enhanced texture pack that was in development for Diablo 2. Unfortunately, this pack may not see the light of day. Instead, its creator has released a free tech demo that you can play. There are rumors that Blizzard will soon announce a Diablo 2 Remaster. However, these are just rumors and nothing else (at least for now). Therefore, the only way you can somehow experience Diablo 2 Remaster is through this free tech demo.
Finally, here is also a video showing a Diamond 2 Fan Remaster in Unreal Engine 4.
Have fun!
