the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and War zone The subreddits generally have some pretty good clips: videos of players denying access to the new sweet bunker, helping random friends, or simply refusing to give up. But a new clip on the Modern war subreddit marks the end of all Call of Duty mounts; it cannot and will not improve better than this.
On July 5, user Gorrick1 posted a one-minute montage of his own exploits using a self-described “toxic” charge: the dual .357 revolvers with their Snake Shot shotgun accessories and the Model 680 shotgun. The video (embedded below ) shows Gorrick1 using this charge to decimate players on a variety of maps.
But this is not an ordinary setup. Gorrick1 put his murders to the rhythm of Offenbach’s “Infernal Galop”. Gorrick1 mainly uses his .357 and Model 680 to reproduce the sounds of the song (supported by the blasting horns of Offenbach), but sometimes he gets creative with death stripes, C4 and even an AC130.
In less than 24 hours, the Redditors have voted for the post almost 44,000 times, and have awarded it 32 different Reddit Awards.
Gamers love Gorrick1’s video because of the amazing editing, music choice, and some of the awesome games. “I will congratulate you on the edit but I will condemn you for the game lmao,” wrote user ThePandazz, speaking for many players on the thread. The celebrated toxicity here is a true representation of schadenfreude in action.
The playstyle is labeled toxic because Gorrick1 is effectively using two shotguns simultaneously. Players spent weeks complaining about .357 Snake Shots before Infinity Ward nerfed them, as they had the range of pistols and stopping power of a shotgun. But now, players like Gorrick1 are pairing them up with a real shotgun, running across the map and taking people out with orchestral bangs.
The Call of Duty community loves creativity that leads to victory, even when it’s toxic. But it’s that perfect mix of hate and love that makes videos like this so popular. It takes a special type of player to execute dual shotguns like this, and the community loves to express their frustration at balance in-game with a cleverly edited video. They’ve all been in a game with a player like is.
But on a personal note, it’s nice to see a fellow artist use Offenbach’s infamous song the way he always intended: infinite virtual destruction.
